Thabo Community Action Trust (TCAT) celebrated the opening of their latest project in F-Section Botshabelo namely Diba sa Thuto Pre-School. The project started in April of this year and the official opening was held on the 3rd December 2016. TCAT is very proud to present this community welfare project which is the result of many months of hard work and research. Improving infrastructure forms a large part of the TCAT mandate and the school not only provides education, but a safe haven for small children during the day when parents are at work. Creating an environment where children are nurtured and cared for, and receive healthy nutritious meals are of utmost importance.
As to maximise any existing resources, and to minimise costs, a modular model was adopted. TCAT funded the capital requirements of setting up the centre and its infrastructure, which was approximately R 800,000. The playground area was also upgraded and the school now boasts with a beautiful vegetable garden providing fresh greens on a daily basis.
Up until recently the school only catered for children up to the age of 5, but in 2016 they are expanding to include Grade R classes as well. They now have the infrastructure and space to care for up to 80 children at the school.
Since this section of Botshabelo does not have a sewerage and waste system at this stage, TCAT also installed a dry composting toilet system to cater to the needs of the children and caregivers.
The opening was attended by a number of prestigious guests and the school was officially handed over by TCAT Trustee, Reverend Sam Chaka.
