About

Recognising that something has to change for the better, the Thabo Community Action Trust (TCAT) was established for the benefit, welfare, maintenance and development of the people of Thaba'Nchu and Botshabelo areas in the Free State Province.

Our aims are:

  • The maintenance and improvement of land/structures within these communities;
  • The construction, reconstruction, renovation, repair, alteration, extension, improvement or demolition of buildings or improvements; and
  • The development of industrial, educational, health, commercial and housing facilities within these areas.

TCAT

The Thabo Community Action Trust has supported many projects in and around Thaba’Nchu and Botshabelo and these have had a positive impact on the communities . In Thaba Nchu, Moroka Hospital and Mmabana Cultural Center have been beneficiaries, while in Botshabelo, we have supported the Botshabelo Hospital.

The Trust focuses on  three channels for impact which are:

1) Enterprise/Community/Economic Development – The ROOTS Trader Club

2) Community Welfare – Charities looking after the elderly and orphaned children

3) Community Upliftment.- ROOTS YOUTH and the ROOTs Academy

Background and Insight Gathering Report

At the start of 2010 The Thabo Community Action Trust (TCAT)  partnered with The Culture Corporation to survey in detail the status of the communities in the Botshabelo and Thaba Nchu areas of the Free State – commonly known as the Thabelo Region. They embarked on a 4 day intensive fact-finding mission to find out what people were thinking and doing, so as to best work out how to help stimulate growth in the area and make it really sustainable! The insights gathered have been invaluable.

They have led to the identification of areas of industry that are growing and can be assisted to develop their potential. These include – food and beverage retail, sewing, carpentry, upholstery cleaning, small-scale farming, childcare, and micro-retailing.
